Roman Arch of Travertine Noce

The owner of Peppercorns restaurant came to us last year with a picture of a dining room in Rome.  And in the dining room was an archway made of Travertine Blocks probably centuries old.  The owner was re creating the room as part of an extension of their Hartford, CT restaurant and they wanted a copy of the Travertine arch.   After much discussion and creating a couple of models this is the end product.  The owners chose to use  Travertine Noce slabs but not the filled and polished side.  We used the unfilled, unfinished back side to give the look of ancient stone.  The arch is actually a veneer of stone over a plywood base.  The edges were chiseled to re created the roughness of the older stone.  The lintel of the arch was trimmed with a Travertine Noce ogee edge detail created by the workman in our shop.   The final touch was the addition of two Travertine steps inside the arch which have a full bull nose edge.   By the way, Peppercorns offers contemporary Italian cuisine, terrific service and a very elegant abmiance!   www.peppercornsgrill.com
